A SkinCeuticals routine is built on three steps the brand calls prevent, protect and correct: an antioxidant serum, a daily sunscreen, and targeted products for your specific concerns. In the morning that means cleanser, vitamin C serum, moisturizer and sunscreen. At night it means cleanser, a corrective serum or retinol, and moisturizer. Everything else in the range slots into one of those positions.
- What does prevent, protect, correct mean?
- Prevent is an antioxidant serum. Protect is a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Correct is targeted treatment for concerns such as lines, uneven tone, dryness or congestion.
- What is the morning order?
- Cleanse, tone (optional), vitamin C serum, corrective serum, moisturizer, sunscreen.
- What is the night order?
- Cleanse, tone (optional), corrective serum, retinol, moisturizer.
- Which vitamin C serum?
- C E Ferulic for normal to dry skin. Phloretin CF for normal to oily skin and uneven tone. Silymarin CF for oily, blemish-prone skin.
- Can I use vitamin C and retinol?
- Yes. Vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night.
- Where should I start?
- Four products: cleanser, antioxidant serum, moisturizer, sunscreen. From $473 on our store. Add a retinol once that is a habit.
Prevent, protect, correct
SkinCeuticals recommends that every routine contain one product from each of three categories. The brand's view is that a routine missing any one of them leaves a gap: correction without protection gets undone by daily sun exposure, and protection without an antioxidant covers only part of the daily environmental stress skin faces.
| Step | What it does | SkinCeuticals products | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prevent | Antioxidant serums that help defend skin against daily environmental stress | C E Ferulic, Phloretin CF, Silymarin CF, Serum 10 AOX+, Resveratrol B E | Morning. Resveratrol B E is a night antioxidant |
| Protect | Broad-spectrum sunscreen | Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50, Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 | Every morning, as the last step |
| Correct | Targeted treatment for a specific concern | Retinol 0.3, Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2, A.G.E. Interrupter Advanced, P-TIOX, H.A. Intensifier, LHA Serum | Morning or night, depending on the product |

The morning routine
The morning is about defence. The antioxidant and the sunscreen do the most important work, and everything else supports them.
- Cleanse. Gentle Cleanser for dry or sensitive skin, Simply Clean for combination to oily, LHA Cleanser Gel for congested or blemish-prone skin. All $65 to $68.
- Tone, if you use one. Equalizing Toner for most skin, or LHA Toner for oily skin. Both $65. This step is optional.
- Antioxidant serum, on dry skin. A few drops over face, neck and chest. C E Ferulic, Phloretin CF or Silymarin CF, $230 each.
- Corrective serum, if you use one. H.A. Intensifier, $175, for hydration and the look of plumpness, or Phyto Corrective Gel, $115, for skin prone to visible redness.
- Moisturizer. Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2, $195, for dry or mature skin. Daily Moisture, $110, for normal to oily skin. A.G.E. Interrupter Advanced, $240, when the look of lines and crepiness is the main concern.
- Sunscreen, every day. Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 for a sheer tint, or Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 for no tint. Both $68.
Eye care, if you use it, goes on before moisturizer. A.G.E. Advanced Eye, $155, can be used morning and night.
The night routine
The night is about correction. This is where retinol and most corrective serums belong.
- Cleanse, with the same cleanser as the morning, or twice if you wear sunscreen or makeup.
- Tone, if you use one.
- Corrective serum, if you use one. P-TIOX, $200, for the look of expression lines. LHA Serum, $145, for congested or blemish-prone skin. Retexturing Activator, $125, for rough texture.
- Retinol. Retinol 0.3, $110, to start. Move to Retinol 0.5, $120, then Retinol 1.0, $130, only once your skin is comfortable. Begin with a few nights a week.
- Moisturizer, the same one you use in the morning, or a richer one in winter.
Resveratrol B E. If you want antioxidant support at night as well as in the morning, Resveratrol B E, $230, is SkinCeuticals' night antioxidant. It is an addition for later, not a starting product.
Where to start: four products
If you are building a SkinCeuticals routine from scratch, start with one product per essential step and use it consistently for a few weeks before adding anything else. This is the version we would put together for most normal to dry skin.
| Step | Product | Price | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cleanse | Gentle Cleanser | $65 | Morning and night |
| Prevent | C E Ferulic | $230 | Morning |
| Moisturize | Daily Moisture, or Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 for drier skin | $110 or $195 | Morning and night |
| Protect | Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 | $68 | Morning |
That comes to $473 with Daily Moisture, or $558 with Triple Lipid Restore, and qualifies for free shipping. For oily skin, swap in Simply Clean and Phloretin CF or Silymarin CF at the same price.
What to add next, in order: a retinol at night, then an eye product, then one targeted corrective serum for your main concern. Add one product at a time, a few weeks apart, so you can tell what each one is doing.

Layering rules
- Thinnest to thickest. When you use more than one serum, apply the most fluid one first. SkinCeuticals states this rule directly.
- Vitamin C on dry skin. Apply your antioxidant serum after cleansing and toning, once skin is dry, before other serums.
- Vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night. They are not in conflict, they simply belong to different halves of the day.
- Sunscreen last, every morning. It is the one step that protects the work the rest of the routine is doing.
- One new product at a time. A few weeks apart, so you know what is working and what is not.

What is the SkinCeuticals prevent, protect, correct method?
It is the brand's framework for building a routine. Prevent means a daily antioxidant serum such as C E Ferulic. Protect means a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning. Correct means targeted products for specific concerns, such as a retinol, a corrective serum or a moisturizer matched to your skin. SkinCeuticals recommends starting with one product from each.
What order do you apply SkinCeuticals products in the morning?
Cleanse, tone if you use a toner, apply your vitamin C serum to dry skin, then any corrective serum, then moisturizer, then sunscreen. When you use more than one serum, apply the thinnest first.
What order do you apply SkinCeuticals products at night?
Cleanse, tone if you use a toner, apply any corrective serum, then your retinol, then moisturizer. Vitamin C serums such as C E Ferulic are a morning step.
Can you use C E Ferulic and SkinCeuticals retinol in the same routine?
Yes, at different times of day. Apply C E Ferulic in the morning, followed by sunscreen, and use the retinol at night. Start the retinol a few nights a week and build up as your skin adjusts.
Which SkinCeuticals vitamin C serum should I use?
C E Ferulic for normal to dry skin, Phloretin CF for normal to oily skin and uneven tone, and Silymarin CF for oily and blemish-prone skin. All three are $230 at Your Skin Solution.
What is a good SkinCeuticals routine to start with?
Four products: a cleanser, an antioxidant serum, a moisturizer and a sunscreen. For example Gentle Cleanser, C E Ferulic, Daily Moisture and Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50, which is $473 at Your Skin Solution. Add a retinol at night once that routine is a habit.
